Meet the Creator
I am Maclane Zich, a 17-year-old high school student from the Chicago area and the sole creator and developer of HeadacheWise. My work integrates my interests in computer science, healthcare innovation, and artificial intelligence. I aspire to become a physician and continue developing biomedical solutions that merge technology with patient care throughout college and into my professional career.
My Story
For as long as I can remember, headaches have been a part of my life. I have left school early, missed activities, and watched my mother struggle with severe migraines that could steal days at a time.
During my freshman year of high school, I enrolled in my first computer science course and was immediately captivated. I continued learning through an online summer program and another year-long class in my sophomore year. I was fascinated by how technology could be harnessed to solve real-world problems.
One day, while speaking with my father, who is a physician, we discussed how tedious it was to log my headaches on paper. That conversation sparked the idea to create an intuitive headache-tracking app. Although I had no prior experience in app development, I knew I could learn.
Over the next year, I taught myself the ins and outs of app development. The first version of HeadacheWise was far from perfect, but it worked—and I continued refining it. Eventually, I integrated Google’s Gemini model so the app could analyze data and generate insights more effectively than any human could. For the first time, I was genuinely excited to log my headaches, just to see what the AI would uncover.
Today, I am a 17-year-old high school student from the Chicago area, passionate about computer science, healthcare innovation, and artificial intelligence. I look forward to continuing this work and developing biomedical solutions that make a meaningful impact.
